The importance of vacation for our children and educational team

On vacation, each day that is born invites us to live life in a different way. With school and work routines paused, it is possible to experience new perspectives, experiences, places, and, above all, a different rhythm of doing things – from waking up without hurry and having longer meals, to having more time to talk, explore, play, and, why not, rest.

At this moment of pause, children have the opportunity to create their daily routine within a family context different from the usual, exploring new hobbies, spaces, and relationships. They experience the freedom of not having such strict schedules, discovering the world around them in a different way. This period is essential for them to understand their own subjectivities and also to apply, in a practical way, the knowledge acquired at school.

“During these days of rest, the children do not stop learning. They are constantly using tools, strategies and knowledge acquired at school. They solve problems, negotiate with friends, and explore natural curiosities. This is a precious time where learning happens in an organic and integrated way with everyday life”, explains Camila Maia, coordinator of Early Childhood Education at be.Living.

For the educational team, vacations are equally important. When teachers have the opportunity to walk, contemplate and experience different significant situations, they are absorbing knowledge, enriching their cultural repertoire and nourishing themselves with new experiences and inspirations.

“Many teachers take advantage of this period to read books that they can’t during the semester, visit different places, and get to know new cultures. All these experiences nourish their practices, bringing new ideas and approaches to the classes. As educators, even if we are on vacation, we naturally think about how to contribute to the teaching and learning processes of children based on the enriching and meaningful experiences we have the opportunity to experience”, says the coordinator.

Vacations also allow teachers to restore their body and mind, so demanded in this job. It is a time used to recharge energy and reflect on pedagogical practices, preparing to offer new and rich experiences in the second semester. Mental and physical rest is essential so that they can continue to play their role in an effective and inspired way.

In the family context, vacations strengthen bonds and relationships, allowing for longer and deeper exchanges. Children benefit emotionally from this time when they are closer to their families, feeling safe and loved. For educators, this is also a time for them to connect more closely with their own families and personal interests.

Thus, moments of pause are very precious for human development processes in general and, of course, for the school learning journey. They restore the energies of all those involved in the process, enrich experiences and pedagogical practices and prepare both children and staff for a stronger and more inspired return to school. Soon, after this brief time of renewal and growth for all, we will be back at our school, full of energy and the desire to make new discoveries together!
