Children who call themselves “guardians of the forest”… Who understand the impacts of their diet and choose to do things differently by not eating meat at least once a week… Children who appreciate the history, cultural production and life of all peoples…
Through the small and large experiences of school life, we are witnessing our children promoting changes for a better world — a world that we so desperately want for them.
At be.Living, we believe that education has the power to transform people and that changed people change the world. We understand that school has a responsibility to create learning opportunities so that children can reflect and generate knowledge from a critical perspective on reality, at both the local and global levels. It is therefore our job to contribute to the formation of citizens who are committed to the well-being of humanity and the planet, as well as their own.
That’s why our curriculum is designed to develop individuals capable of questioning the status quo, promoting changes in behavior and proposing new habits and attitudes, based on values that benefit everyone.
Awareness of the planetary reality is vital if want to protect life on Earth. As a school that has sustainability as a core principle, we are aware of our responsibility in tackling the climate emergency. In 2019, we adhered to the Meatless Monday movement, reflecting on environmental impacts with the students, their families and our staff. We worked to introduce this new food culture in a pleasurable and meaningful way, with acceptance of the new dishes being built on a daily basis with the active participation of the children.
Our teachers take part in ongoing training with specialists, acquiring the necessary knowledge to teach about sustainability with autonomy, a scientific basis and a critical approach, permeating all of the school’s projects and initiatives.
We are delighted to have been awarded level 5 of the Schools for Climate label, a movement involving schools all over Brazil. This seal recognizes be.Living as an institution committed to sustainability.
To reach level 5, which is the highest level of the seal, we relied on the support and commitment from our entire team.
Last year, our teachers Juliana Sá and Milena Macedo were the winners of the Projects for Sustainability Award.
Promoting diversity is another core value at be.Living. We offer a variety of experiences that allow children to reflect on different situations from multiple viewpoints. Our inclusive environment celebrates diversity in all its forms — racial, ethnic, cultural, gender and sexual orientation — creating opportunities for a deeper understanding of the world.
Since 2019, we have had an anti-racist curriculum, incorporating this theme into all our learning activities throughout the year. We strive to tell the history of Brazil and the world from different viewpoints, emphasizing the artistic, literary and scientific production of all peoples. Students are encouraged to see black and indigenous people as producers of knowledge, occupying various spaces in society, science and culture.
As a school, we continue to listen attentively and are willing to constantly learn and transform the world. We believe that by helping children understand that small actions can transform the world, we are building a better future for everyone.
Through this magazine, we invite readers to learn a little more about school life at be.Living, where children are the agents of their learning journeys and of their own stories!
